چکیده

I t is commonly admitted that the glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes proceeds from a complex “alchemy” in which the respective contributions of both fasting and postprandial glucose are still a subject of debate (1). A1C, which remains the gold standard for assessing glucose homeostasis, is an integration of both fasting and postprandial glucose variations over a 3-month period (2). From a mathematical point of view, the theory can be formulated as follows (3): [A1C] –3 months 0 3 FPG t dt

Serum biomarkers for assessing glycemic control in diabetes mellitus

Clinical evidence has revealed the association between complications Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and serum glycemic control. Thus, evaluation of the glycemic control status is crucial in the management of DM. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is the most common method for monitoring serum glycemic control. However, several confounding factors including red blood cell lifespan and hemoglobinopathies can affect ...

Lipid Profiles and Lipid Oxidation in Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Good Glycemic Control

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of good glycemic control on serum lipids levels and lipid peroxidation, and to find out the relationship between the level of malondialdehyde and HbA1c in type 2 diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty type 2 diabetic patients aged 40-60 years with the history of diabetes for more than 10 years were studied. Glycemic control was stable...

Effect of Intravitreal Dexamethasone Implant (Ozurdex®) in the Glycemic Control of Patients with Diabetic Macular Edema

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of intravitreal dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex®) in the glycemic control of patients with diabetic macular edema. Methods: Ten patients with diabetic macular edema received an intravitreal injection (IVI) of dexamethasone implant (DEX implant, Ozurdex®). Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1C) is analyzed before and three months after IVI. The real-time glycemic readings ar...

Polypharmacy in the Aging Patient: A Review of Glycemic Control in Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes.

IMPORTANCE There is substantial uncertainty about optimal glycemic control in older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. OBSERVATIONS Four large randomized clinical trials (RCTs), ranging in size from 1791 to 11,440 patients, provide the majority of the evidence used to guide diabetes therapy. Most RCTs of intensive vs standard glycemic control excluded adults older than 80 years, used surro...

Failure to control hyperglycemia in noncritically ill diabetes patients despite standard glycemic management in a hospital setting.

BACKGROUND Successful control of hyperglycemia has been shown to improve outcomes for diabetes patients in a clinical setting. We assessed the quality of physician-based glycemic management in two general wards, considering the most recent recommendations for glycemic control for noncritically ill patients (<140 mg/dl for premeal glucose). METHODS Quality of glycemic management of 50 patients...

RE: Revisiting tight glycemic control in perioperative and critically ill patients: when one size may not fit all.

Glycemic control has received intense scrutiny in the last decade as an important aspect of patient care. Earlier studies suggested that tight glycemic control (target level of 80 - 110 mg/dL) improved outcomes in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Subsequent trials did not confirm the same benefit. Moreover, increased mortality was found in association with such tight control compared with a ...
